The
Three Lions' meeting with Sweden on Friday was likely the most
entertaining match we've seen so far in Euro 2012. After securing a 1-0
lead thanks to an inspired exchange between Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard
and Andy Carroll, England gave up two quick goals just after half to
lose their advantage. Never a side to stop fighting, Theo Walcott and
Danny Welbeck netted two goals late-on that can be counted among the
goals of the tournament. If they can take this inspirational performance
forward against Ukraine, they should have no problem taking three
points.
Andriy Shevchenko's heroics were enough to get the win in
the group opener over Sweden, but against France, home advantage was
not enough to close the gap in class between the two sides. They will
face a similar problem with an English side who are growing in
confidence with each goal scored. The Ukrainians need to win on Tuesday
night to advance, but to defeat England they will need to be clinical
when the chances come.
